Social Activism is defined by Oxford Dictionary as “the political advocacy of social causes”. If ever Agency can define social justice as an equitable, loving and respectful world in which difference is embraced, accepted and respected, then those who practice social activism would see that social activism is a side of the same coin. Social justice is a means to achieve social change. This can be done by civil disobedience, occupation of public spaces, and even boycott, divestiture and disobedience. There is no one solution to social change but to continually participate in these efforts in the hope that at some point they will have positive effects on our society and world. However, those who practice social activism work to bring about positive social change by trying to bring to the world a greater understanding of differences among all people rather than allowing differences to divide us.

The history of social activism is very interesting. Early efforts to civilize Indians was met with violence. Some activists were killed while participating in these struggles. The reformers were also forced to flee from their native countries to South America. With this historical context in mind, one can better understand today’s social activists who are engaged in social change through nonviolent methods.

It is hard to pin down the exact role that social activism has played in the recent history of human rights. Still it seems that whatever the role, it is undeniable that social action has always been at the forefront when it comes to promoting and protecting human rights. In the United States for example, civil rights activists were instrumental in the campaign for voting rights for black Americans. These same activists were also responsible for the drafting of the Fourteenth Amendment, which guarantees every American the right to vote. Other notable social actions include the American revolution and the Suffragettes. Agency by these groups of social Activists helped guarantee the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the protection of women’s rights.

Today, social activism continues to be a force for social change. A social demonstration against the increasing price of gasoline is one of the latest examples. Many people are joining the demonstrations and many more are taking part in the political discussions that take place on a regular basis. Agency growing number of environmental concerns and the need to protect the planet have also inspired many people to become involved in the political arena.

The growth of social media has given advocates of social action an unparalleled opportunity to engage the public. Technology has made it easy for activists to reach out to large numbers of people with a message and make their voices heard. Social media provides a unique opportunity to those who want to use their creativity and their minds to create change. Agency has allowed for an explosive growth in the number of meetings, phone calls, and general communications that are taking place between those who are engaged in social activism.

In the United States, the environmentalist groups Earthroots and Save the Earth have been active in bringing attention to issues such as global warming. Activists from both groups have formed grass-roots coalitions that bring together like-minded people who have similar beliefs about social change and economic injustice. The ultimate goal of this type of movement is for the preservation of the earth and the environment. If this type of movement continues to grow at a rapid pace, there will be much more people who are aware of the need to protect the environment and the need to act to prevent global warming and climate change. The ultimate success of this type of activism depends upon people being willing to step forward and become active in order to save the world for future generations.

There are many ways that an individual can get involved in activism. One way that an individual can get involved in this type of social action is to attend events where they will be able to engage in conversation with other individuals who are part of this movement. These conversations can be about the importance of social activism to environmental preservation and solutions to the problems that face our planet today. Another way that an individual can get involved with this type of activity is to research various organizations that focus on issues such as these. Finally, the last way that a social activist may use this type of social service is to use their social services as a way to find a way to make a difference in the world around them.
