Your child’s first big bike…the one they are currently riding on their own. This could be their first ride on one. Or maybe they have had the opportunity to ride on their own big wheel. It doesn’t matter what, it is just as special than any ride with an adult. What are the key features to look for in your child’s Big Wheel?

Audio: Does the Big Wheel setup come with audio? Clear audio is crucial for your child’s riding experience. This will allow them to hear everything that happens and be able hear the people around them. You don’t want to take your child out on a ride only to find out what the other riders are talking about. It should be included as a standard with the setup!

Video: Is there an included video with the Big Wheel setup. Many stores include a brief video with the purchase. It is always a good idea to make sure this video gives you a good overview of what it is you are buying…especially if you are getting the Big Wheel in conjunction with another toy. Take a look at the video!

Sensors: Are there actual sensors included with the Big Wheel setup? Although not essential, sensors will allow your child to be monitored while they ride. They will be able slow down if they hit something (hopefully not a tree) or slow down if the toy is lost. Although some models may have additional sensors, they are not as common.

Sound: Does Big Wheel have a sound effect recording available? This is a nice addition to many toys. While it adds to the fun, it can also distract your child. I’m not saying to buy one with a siren or sound effects recording – just don’t buy one without them. Children like to have fun but they also need boundaries.

Props: Does your Big Wheel come with a set of riding pads or horns that you can attach to your child’s handlebars? Most do, but some don’t. It’s always a good idea for toys to have what you need. You might end up constantly picking at your kid’s faces and causing them to get scratches and cuts. You can purchase riding pads at your local department or toy shop, but be prepared for a significant amount of money. The same goes for sound effects or horns.

Storage: Will the Big Wheel include storage trays that you can place items on? Most likely, not. It’s best to ensure there’s enough space for at most one ride-on. Kids get very carried away and sometimes forget that they are supposed to keep their toys in storage while they play with them. You can solve this problem by having more space!

You’re ready for your child to ride when you’ve got everything figured out. It’s important to take it slow. Teach your child how to ride the big wheel and then give them more challenging rides when they’ve grown out of their small size. Your child will love riding, it’s such a rewarding experience for them.

Safety is important. If your child is under 18 years old and does not hold a riding permit, you should take extra care. You may also need to ensure your child wears a safety helmet, as they may not be skilled in controlling the vehicle. It may seem obvious but it’s a necessity! The helmet will protect both you and your child against head injuries.

Have fun. This is supposed to be a fun experience, not a stressful one. You should plan lots of fun rides for your child and don’t let anything stop you from achieving that goal. There’s no need to rush through these first few lessons. Everything will fall into place if you just have fun.

There are many riding toys available for your child to choose from when he/she is ready. You can ride with your child, making riding again fun. You’ll both be glad you did! Your child will thank you many times over! Big Wheel is a great adventure for you and your child.
