    Gustavo Petro was confirmed as the candidate on Sunday. Petro has been attending the election for a few weeks, displaying favoritism.

    The victory of the Historic Pact coalition was won by the former mayor of Bogota, and the former senator of Republic. He officially became an official candidate for the presidency of the Republic in an ambition he hopes to achieve for the third time in a row.

Petro also stated that it is not required to raise the age of retirement.

    Another controversy about him is the fact that he has repeatedly stated that he will end oil extraction once he takes the helm. This has led to uncertainty among investors as well and the market.

    Experts believe that Petro’s plan of stopping exploration of oil could cost Colombia the equivalent of $4.3 billion in losses.

    He has also questioned the independence of the Banco de la Republica and declared that he will make a reform when he becomes President.

    According to Petro, “the Board of Directors of the Bank belongs to an political party called the Democratic Center” and therefore, “what we want is an independent Bank of the Republic (…) it is important that the board of directors is a part of the public,” said the candidate, in the middle of the debate.

    According to Invamer, Petro leads the vote in the presidential election.

    The idea of issuing cash to fund government spending was also controversial.

    Petro’s recommendations include an economy that isn’t dependent on fossil fuels, extraction of hydrocarbons and mining. Agriculture plays a larger part to play.
