Fan Tan, or fancan tan is a traditional game of gambling that was enjoyed for centuries in China. As with many other card games, it can also be played on the streets and at bazaars. There are a variety of forms of Fan Tan. The most common version of Fan Tan is that players swap turns. They will alternate picking up and discarding cards one after the next in a regular sequence. The “changeover” is a different variation in which players swap positions. Once the last card is taken away, all players switch positions. Then, the new game will go on until the winner has been selected.

Sevens are scored in the game if sevens are possible within the initial five rounds. If this can be done then the player becomes the first player to be able to draw. Other versions exist for instance, the double-dagger that uses the 52-card standard deck. After the seven cards are dealt to each other, players must remove sevens from their hand.

The fan version is different, as it uses the deck of cards which is the standard 52 card deck. Players build their deck by adding sevens to the top of the deck, and then removing cards one at a time. The player will be left with seven cards after all sevens are removed. A Fan Tan session can be very challenging as there is no way to know which players will remove cards. If a player wants to dispose of cards before the turn ends then they should call out the entire amount of cards in their hand. The dealer will hand out a card that contains the minimum amount of cards that the player needs to remove. If there are still cards left then the dealer will eliminate cards one at a time.
